About project

The project is financed by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2009-2014 in the framework of the Bilateral Cooperation Fund, Program PL04 “Saving energy and promoting renewable energy sources.” Operator Program PL04 is the Ministry of Environment together with the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management and the executor of the project is National Energy Conservation Agency SA in partnership with Norsk Energi in Norway.

Project duration: from January 2016 to the end of September 2017 year.

Estimates indicate a 30-40 % energy efficiency improvement potential across most economic sectors of many countries around the world, with currently available technologies. This potential of cost-effective energy savings remains largely untapped, especially in the case of small- and medium-sized enterprises’ (SMEs), and it represents a major productivity and environmental loss. Energy costs are very often a significant part of an SME’s budget.

Energy Management systems helps industrial companies to identify and implement profitable measures that reduces energy consumption, costs and greenhouse gas emissions. Improved energy performance strengthens the company’s profitability, competitiveness and the environmental profile. Energy can be integrated into the company’s existing environmental management system and quality assurance system. The new international standard for Energy Management (EN ISO 50001) is a recognized label for documenting the quality of the work on energy efficiency. To obtain new emission permits according to the Industrial Emissions Directive (2010/75/EU) there is a requirement to establish Energy Management in accordance with the ISO standard. According to the Energy Efficiency Directive (2012/27/EU) energy audits must be performed in companies exceeding a certain size and turnover.

 

The aim of the proposed project Energy Management in Polish Industry (EMPI) is:

• To enable selected Polish industrial companies to implement Energy Management systems in accordance with the EN-ISO 50001 standard.
• To disseminate practical knowledge about energy management to Polish industry, using the selected pilot companies as examples for other Polish industry companies on how to implement Energy Management Systems and the economic and environmental benefits that may be obtained.
